(Hong Kong, June 3, 2001) - EC-Founder (Holdings) Company Limited, ("EC-Founder" or the "Group") (stock code: 618), the PRC e-Commerce services and solutions provider, recently organized the "Spatial 2001 GIS Application Seminar" in Beijing to introduce the concept and applications of the Group's Geographic Information System (GIS) to business partners, system developers and major customers. The seminar received a highly popular response with approximately 1,000 attendees.
Mr. Ricky Lei, President of EC-Founder, said, "The seminar was very successful in attracting a large number of enterprises from different industries, illustrating the wide applications and high interest and demand for GIS systems. GIS is no longer restricted to its traditional applications in map-drawing management and natural resources management. Rather, GIS has achieved a breakthrough in information integration and sharing amongst different units in governments, enterprises and industrial businesses to strengthen management efficiency. GIS has further applications in various industries such as in telecommunications, energy resources, traffic, petrochemical and planning. At the same time, GIS combines with developments in information technology to enable wider applications. The emergence of the WAP era makes GIS applications even more personal and practical, with developments in the mapping of vehicle navigation, mobile phone positioning and personal digital assistance (PDA)."
The research and development of GIS products started back in 1996. The Founder Mirage GIS products are supported by the PRC Government in its ninth 5-year plan, underwent testing on domestic GIS software and obtained recommendations from the National Technology Department for three consecutive years. These products were also the first domestic GIS software to be exported to the US. Through continuous R&D and technology enhancements, EC-Founder completed an integral GIS concept and launched a full series of products and solutions in 2001. Currently, EC-Founder is also the exclusive distributor of MapInfo products in the Greater China region with over 100 business partners. The business is growing steadily at a rate of over 50% and is maintaining a stable market share especially in the new markets of telecommunications, land use planning, energy resources, logistics, traffic and internet applications.
