Cathay Pacific Airways today announced its intention to appoint Ivan Chu, the airline's current Director Service Delivery, as a Director and the Chief Operating Officer with effect from 31 March 2011. He will succeed John Slosar in the role.
On 3 December last year, Cathay Pacific announced its intention that Mr Slosar should take over as the airline's Chief Executive when current Chief Executive Tony Tyler leaves on 31 March to take up the position of Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Announcing Mr Chu's intended appointment, Cathay Pacific Chairman Christopher Pratt said: "I am very pleased with the appointment of Ivan Chu as Chief Operating Officer of Cathay Pacific Airways. Ivan has had a wide range of valuable experience in the airline business and has a proven track record of success. I am confident he will work very well with John Slosar and the rest of the Cathay Pacific team to realise the many opportunities that lie ahead for our business."
Mr Chu joined Cathay Pacific in 1984 and has worked with the Group in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia. His appointments within the airline include General Manager Taiwan & Korea, General Manager Southeast Asia, General Manager International Affairs and General Manager Southwest Pacific. He was appointed Director Service Delivery in September 2008.

Mr Chu's successor as Director Service Delivery will be announced in due course.
