Cathay Pacific Restores Services in July

Cathay Pacific Airways today announced details of flight reinstatement in July when the airline will operate 71 percent of normal capacity. This move is in support of efforts to rebuild passenger traffic through Hong Kong.

From May, when most flights were cancelled, through July, the airline will increase the number of services to North Asia by 32 percent, mount a 35 percent increase to Southeast Asia and raise the number of long-haul services by 33 percent.

Among the airline's most popular routes, the number of services to Vancouver will by July have risen from 7 to 11 a week. Flights to New York will be restored from 3 times a week to daily. Auckland will jump from 5 to 10 services flights a week, Manila from twice to three-times daily, and the number of services to Bangkok will rise from 18 to 28 flights a week.

The airline plans to restore 90 percent of services in August and operate a full schedule by late September.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Revenue Management, Sales & Distribution Ian Shiu said: "Cathay Pacific ticket promotions and other initiatives launched by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and travel industry have stimulated passenger traffic. Yet price competition with other carriers means that yield remains very low, and will take a long time to recover to pre-SARS levels. Forward bookings are better and we remain cautiously optimistic that this upward trend will continue."
