Cathay Pacific launches 'The World's Biggest Welcome'

Cathay Pacific Airways today announced the launch of "Cathay Pacific - The World's Biggest Welcome", the airline's biggest-ever campaign to boost tourism in Hong Kong that will involve all Hong Kong residents.

Cathay Pacific will give away 10,000 return air tickets for Hong Kong residents to invite their friends and relatives living overseas to visit Hong Kong between 3 April and 3 July 2002.

Ticket winners will be determined in a free-to-enter lucky draw in which all Hong Kong ID cardholders over the age of 18 can take part. The 10,000-ticket giveaway is the biggest community project that Cathay Pacific has ever undertaken to boost tourism in Hong Kong.

Entry forms will be available at MTR stations, public enquiry service centres at the 18 District Offices, Cathay Pacific check-in counters at both the In-Town Check-In and at Hong Kong International Airport from 26 January 2002.

Completed entry forms can be dropped off between 26 January and midnight of 2 February 2002, at official collection counters located at the MTR stations at Causeway Bay, Admiralty, Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok and Kowloon Tong, and at Cathay Pacific check-in areas at Hong Kong International Airport.

Speaking at today's launch ceremony, Cathay Pacific Chairman Mr James Hughes-Hallett said: "As the airline of Hong Kong and a member of the travel industry, Cathay Pacific has always worked hard to promote tourism - an integral part of our economy. 'The World's Biggest Welcome' is the biggest campaign that we have ever launched.

"By flying in 10,000 people from all over the world, we hope to bring home a much-needed boost to our tourism industry. We think that there can be no better tonic to combat the hard times that many people have faced here this past year than to bring together far-flung family and friends."

The launch, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, was officiated by the Chief Secretary for Administration HKSAR the Hon. Donald Tsang, Secretary for Economic Services Ms Sandra Lee, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board Mrs Selina Chow, Commissioner for Tourism Mrs Rebecca Lai, and Acting Director of Home Affairs Mr Lui Hau-tuen. Cathay Pacific was represented by its Chairman Mr James Hughes-Hallett, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Mr David Turnbull and Director and Chief Operating Officer Mr Philip Chen.

The first 100 winners picked at draws held between 30 January and 2 February 2002, will be entitled to an additional two free tickets for themselves to travel overseas. A Grand Draw on 5 February will determine the winner of a special Mega Prize.

The remaining winners will be drawn on 6 February 2002, and notified by post.
