The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (29 November) published the latest issue of its Quarterly Bulletin. This issue contains articles on:

• Seasonal Adjustments of Hong Kong's Monetary Statistics - examining the significance of seasonal effects on monetary statistics.
  
  
• A Monetary Conditions Index for Hong Kong - integrating previous work on the real effective exchange rate and the real interest rate to provide a Monetary Conditions Index for Hong Kong.
  
  
• Development of a Supervisory Policy Manual - explaining the background, objectives and approach of developing a Supervisory Policy Manual for banks, a recent initiative by the HKMA.
  
  
• Adoption of the Basel Committee's Policy on Innovative Capital Instruments - providing background information on the HKMA's adoption of the policy of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision on innovative capital instruments for capital adequacy purposes.
  
  
• Guideline on Specific Consent to Use Banking Names and Descriptions - a Guideline recently issued by the Monetary Authority on the use of the word "bank" or the letters "b""a""n""k" by non-bank companies in their names or descriptions of businesses in Hong Kong.

The Bulletin also carries regular articles on the banking and monetary environment during the third quarter of 2000.
