JARDINE MATHESON APPOINTS NEW MALAYSIAN COUNTRY CHAIRMAN
18th June 1996 -- Jardine Matheson announced today the appointment of Dato Khalid Ismail as Country Chairman of the Jardine Matheson Group in Malaysia with effect from 1st June 1996. He will also be joining the Asia-Pacific Regional Board of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited.
Dato Khalid Ismail, a Malaysian, recently retired from the Malaysian Civil Service after a distinguished career in Government spanning 30 years in various Departments and Ministries. He retired as the Secretary-General, Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism. He had previously served as the Director of the Budget Division as well as the Under-Secretary of the Purchasing and Contracts Management Division in the Ministry of Finance.
Announcing the appointment, Mr Alasdair Morrison, Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited, said, "As Jardine Matheson's interests in Malaysia are expanding across a wide range of activities, Dato Khalid's appointment as Country Chairman will play an important role in this development."
The Jardine Matheson Group's activities in Malaysia include interests in motor dealer and finance group Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad; motor, property and manufacturing company Cycle & Carriage, and supermarket joint venture Cold Storage (Malaysia). The Group is also engaged in activities including trading, shipping, construction, security, environmental services and financial services.
