HAECO Undertakes Conversion of Air China B747 Combi

Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (HAECO) has been commissioned by Air China to convert one of its B747-200 combi aircraft into a full freighter aircraft.

Work on the conversion, which is valued at over US$11 million and is expected to take 100 days, commenced yesterday, immediately after the aircraft's arrival in Hong Kong.

HAECO has so far converted four B747 combi aircraft owned by international airline operators. This project for Air China is the first of its kind that HAECO has performed for a Mainland operator.

"Following in close tandem to our recent success in launching the first A320 maintenance contract from China, this Air China project has further confirmed HAECO's position in China's aircraft maintenance market," said P. K. Chan, HAECO's Director (Operations & China).

"HAECO will be actively exploring the immense potential of China's rapidly expanding aviation market, where we are confident we have a stronger role yet to play as a regional provider of competitive and quality services."

The A320 maintenance contract, which was completed in June this year, involved the performance of "C" checks on Sichuan Airlines' three A320 aircraft, the first A320 fleet in China to require maintenance.

There are at present over thirty A320 aircraft in China serving with different airline operators.
