(9th November 2006, Hong Kong:) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced today that it achieved peak handling records in the month of October. On 28th October, the tonnage handled surpassed the 9,000-tonne level, hitting a daily tonnage record of 9,046 tonnes. October also saw the highest monthly volume ever - a total of 240,798 tonnes were handled, up 5.5% from a year earlier. Cumulative tonnage from January to October reached 2,085,338 tonnes, up 5.1% year-on-year.
Export volume for October was 138,377 tonnes, up 4.1% against the same month last year. Aggregate export tonnage for the first ten months was 1,166,665 tonnes, representing a year-on-year growth of 4.4%.
The import sector registered a 2.6% growth on a year-on-year basis in October, with 60,085 tonnes being handled. Total import volume for the first ten months of the year was 570,655 tonnes, up 3.3% against the same period last year.
Transshipment volume for October was 42,336 tonnes, up 15% against the same month last year. Cumulative transshipment volume from January to October was 348,018 tonnes, up 10.7% from a year earlier.
Lilian Chan, General Manager, Marketing & Customer Service said, "We are pleased to achieve two new handling records and at the same time maintaining our service delivery standards to our customers, reflecting the effect of our on-going efficiency enhancement initiatives. We are confident that we will continue to manage the growth in cargo volume in the peak season, while delivering our usual high quality services to our customers."
