Hactl Announces October Tonnage Throughput

(7th November 2005, Hong Kong) Cargo volume handled by Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) continued its growth in October as the industry moved into the cargo peak season. Total tonnage handled in October was a monthly record of 228,234 tonnes - up 6.7% year-on-year. Cumulative volume for the period January to October was 1,983,994 tonnes, up 7.1% compared with the same period last year.

Export volume for October was 132,875 tonnes, up 5.7% from last year. Cumulative export tonnage for the first ten months registered a year-on-year growth of 8.3% to 1,117,178 tonnes.

The import sector registered a moderate growth of 1.8% in October, with a total of 58,556 tonnes being handled. Total import tonnage year-to-October was 552,472 tonnes, down 4.4% year-on-year.

Momentum has kept up in the transshipment sector in October, with a year-on-year increase of 20.0% to 36,803 tonnes. Total transshipment volume for the first ten months was 314,344 tonnes, up 29.6% against the same period last year.
