Hactl Reported 10.7% Volume Growth in August

(8th September 2005, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced today that its August air cargo tonnage throughput was 204,016 tonnes, representing a year-on-year growth of 10.7%. Cumulative tonnage from January to August was 1,539,927 tonnes, up 7.1% compared with the same period last year.

Export volume grew 9.2% year-on-year in August to 115,119 tonnes. Aggregate export volume for the first eight months was 860,741 tonnes, representing a growth of 8.7% against the same period last year. Import volume increased in August for the first time after a six-month year-on-year decline. A moderate growth of 3.3% was registered in the import sector during the month, with volume at 54,615 tonnes. The total import tonnage for the period of January to August was 435,194 tonnes, down 5.9% year-on-year.

Growth momentum in the transshipment sector continued in the month, up 31.4% year-on-year to 34,282 tonnes. Total transshipment volume for the first eight months was 243,992 tonnes, up 32.6% against the same period last year.
