Hactl's Tonnage Throughput for the First Quarter

(7th April 2005, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) today announced its March and first quarter 2005 tonnage throughput. Moderate year-on-year growth of 3.3% and 3.0% was recorded respectively in March and in the first quarter of the year. Tonnage volume for March was 210,905 tonnes, while that for the first quarter was 532,348 tonnes.

Export volume increased 4.0% year-on-year in March to 120,651 tonnes. Aggregate export volume for the first quarter was 294,636 tonnes, representing a year-on-year growth of 4.6%.

In the import sector, a total of 57,069 tonnes were handled in March 2005, down 8.8% year-on-year. Aggregate import volume in the first quarter was 153,999 tonnes, down 7.7% compared with the same period last year.

The transshipment sector continued to register strong growth in March and in the first quarter, up 30.0% and 22.8% respectively. Transshipment volume was 33,185 tonnes for March and 83,713 tonnes for the first quarter.

Hactl's Marketing Director, Warren Bishop said, "The first half of 2004 was particularly strong so slower year-on-year growth is not unexpected, and reflects the worldwide economic trade situation. We are encouraged to see continued export growth to the major markets of Europe and the U.S."
