(8th November 2004, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced today its tonnage throughput for October 2004. A total of 213,868 tonnes of air cargo were handled in October 2004, representing a year-on-year growth of 7.6%. Cumulative tonnage for the period January to October 2004 was 1,851,625 tonnes, up 14.3% year-on-year.
Export volume in October 2004 was 125,697 tonnes, up 8.2% year-on-year. Cumulative export tonnage for the first ten months of the year registered a year-on-year growth of 18% to 1,031,373 tonnes. A total of 57,510 tonnes of import volume were handled in October - a slight decrease of 0.4%. Total import tonnage for the period January to October was 577,767 tonnes, up 8.8% year-on-year. Growth in the transshipment sector was strong - with year-on-year growth of 23.6% for October and 12.5% for the period January to October.
"We are happy to see continued growth this October especially as it is in comparison to October 2003 which was a peak month last year. The strong growth in the transshipment sector is encouraging, indicating the strength of Hong Kong as the major transshipment hub in the region," said Warren Bishop, Hactl's Marketing Director.
