(5th March 2004, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) today released its tonnage figures for February and first two months of 2004. Tonnage throughput for February was 167,031 tonnes, up 40.3% against the same month last year, reflecting the effect of shifting period of the Chinese New Year holidays, which began in early February last year and end of January this year. Combined tonnage for January and February 2004, which averages out the Chinese New Year effect and is a more accurate picture of tonnage growth, stood at 312,582 tonnes - up 16.6% compared with the same period last year.
Export tonnage for the first two months of 2004 was 165,778 tonnes, representing a growth of 23% compared with the same period a year ago. Import volume grew 9.8% year-on-year for the first two months of 2004 to 104,175 tonnes. The breakdown of import, export, and transshipment volume for February and cumulative volume for January and February is tabulated below:
