Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) responded to the earthquakes and tsunamis that recently hit south Asia by donating HK$1 million. The money will go to provide medicine and other needed resources for the victims, and help with the future reconstruction of the communities affected.

SHKP Vice Chairman & Managing Director Thomas Kwok said: "It's tragic that tens of thousands of people lost their lives and millions were left homeless in one of the biggest calamities of modern times. The people of Hong Kong quickly united in response to the disaster and contributed generous donations, providing a touching display of empathy with the victims. SHKP has now joined these efforts with its own contribution to the victims."

Mr Kwok added: "The catastrophe also reminds us that life is precious, so people should treasure it and make their lives meaningful. I hope that Hong Kong people will learn from this and band together, showing more concern for those around them."

There are collection boxes in 30 SHKP malls for donations to various charity organizations working to help tsunami victims. The shopping centres include New Town Plaza, World Trade Centre, Tai Po Mega Mall, Yuen Long Plaza, Metropolitan Plaza, The Sun Arcade, East Point City and New Jade Shopping Arcade.

SHKP is working to help various schools and community groups stage fundraising sales and donation campaigns in SHKP malls. Appeals for donations are also being broadcast over mall public announcement systems, so that more people are encouraged to get involved.
