The 1st French Contemporary Art Fair in International Finance Centre (IFC)

French Contemporary Art Fair, the first and largest art fair ever organised in Hong Kong will be held at International Finance Centre from 22nd - 25th May, 2001 at the ground floor lobby, One IFC. 60 top French artists, sculptors and photographers like Louis Durot, Alexandre Kaj, Chantal Ficaja, Malvina and Patrick Danion will gather in IFC during the exhibition period and exhibit more than 300 latest creations to the public. The fair encourages visitors to interact with the artists during their visit. All these artworks are recent, original, signed, authenticated and available with an extremely attractive price.

French Contemporary Art Fair is organised by Hisseo. Established in France, Hisseo is a non-profit making association that aims at promoting contemporary French art to art lovers around the world. Since 1994, Hisseo has organized over 30 contemporary art fairs in major cities such as Paris, Lille, Brussels, Berlin, Hamburg, Lausanne, Beijing and Shanghai, during which over 5,000 artists are introduced to the public. All of the fairs were well received by the public and the media.

This will be the 1st French Contemporary Art Fair ever held in Hong Kong. Being the co-organizer of this largest art fair ever organised in Hong Kong, IFC indicated its sincerity by providing an ideal venue to the organizer. Mr. Henry Leung, the Senior Manager of the International Finance Centre said, "We are proud and happy to have IFC being assigned as the official venue for the French Contemporary Art Fair. IFC is a joint venture between the MTR Corporation and a consortium of developers, IFC Development Ltd.. The consortium comprises Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd., The Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Ltd. and Sun Chung Estate Co. Ltd.. IFC will form a new landmark not only on Hong Kong island but also occupying the most prestigious and visible site at the waterfront on the island. It is set to become one of the pillars of the gateway signifying Hong Kong as a modern international city in the world. The office tower is an intelligent and environmental friendly tower with innovative design features custom made for financial institutions."

He added, "Through organising this art fair, we can bring-in more art and culture element to IFC. With the completion of Phase 2 of IFC in the foreseeing future, IFC will blend multinational business, shopping, leisure, culture and entertainment together to make it a new commercial hub in Central. Apart from that, we would like to provide a free entertainment and a meaningful event to the public in IFC".

In order to make the French Contemporary Art Fair more memorable, an opening ceremony will be conducted on 21st May, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. by the presenter - Hisseo and the co-presenter - International Finance Centre of this event. Meanwhile, the representatives of Consulate General of France, Hong Kong Tourist Association and IFC will present speeches and celebrate the art fair with the invited guests. Mr. Eric Fantou, the representative of Hisseo said: "The purpose of organising the French Contemporary Art Fair in Hong Kong is to let the public in Hong Kong as well as the tourists to experience French Contemporary Art and be more familiar with French culture. Also, our another objective is through this art fair to accelerate the Sino - French culture fusion."

French Contemporary Art Fair is an associated event of Le French May 2001. Since it was launched in 1993, Le French May has presented more than 150 events including exhibitions, concerts, operas, recitals, dance, street performances and cinema retrospectives. Being the largest French festival in Asia, Le French May also contributes to boosting Hong Kong's image as an international city.
