SHKP appoints Sir SY Chung as
Independent Non-Executive Director

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) announced the appointment of the Honourable Sir Sze-yuen Chung as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective from March 30.

Walter Kwok, SHKP's Chairman and Chief Executive, welcomed Sir Sze-yuen on behalf of the Board, saying that he has been an active participant in various aspects of Hong Kong affairs, making an invaluable contribution. Mr Kwok said that with his broad experience and expertise in business and public affairs, Sir Sze-yuen is sure to assist greatly with SHKP's development.

Sir Sze-yuen has been in public service since the 1950s. He was a Senior Member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council and Executive Council, and involved in the Sino-British negotiations on Hong Kong's future in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he was appointed to the Preparatory Committee for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, playing a significant role in Hong Kong's transition of sovereignty. He was awarded the first Grand Bauhinia Medal by the HKSAR Government after the handover, and was made Convenor of the HKSAR Executive Council.

He was Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and Hong Kong Productivity Council, and President of the Engineering Society of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences. He also established Hong Kong Polytechnic, City Polytechnic and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Sir Sze-yuen is the Chairman and a Non-Executive Director of The Kowloon Motor Bus Holdings Limited, as well as Pro-Chancellor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
