SHKP's Low-Density Avignon on Castle Peak Road with
$200 Million, 380,000-Square-Foot Private Garden

The low-density Avignon residential development on Castle Peak Road by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) will have marvelous views of the sea and mountains, plus a 380,000-square-foot garden designed by internationally-renowned landscape architects to create an eco-friendly backyard. The developer introduced the elegant design concept and layout of the development's themed Monet Garden today (November 17).

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Senior Sales and Marketing Manager Tam Sik Cham said: "Avignon is surrounded by a magnificent landscape and sea view along Castle Peak Road, taking in the beauty of nature. The developer will invest HK$200 million to have landscape architects AECOM, who were involved in designing Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi in Japan, to create a 380,000-square-foot themed garden that will cover nearly 80% of the development. It will be styled after the garden that inspired impressionist masterpieces by Claude Monet, with a vibrant Blossom Court and Aqua Place tranquil space by a pond to offer residents scenic views like those in the French countryside."

Blossom Court blending east and west
AECOM Director Tim Anderson is in charge of designing Blossom Court and is an expert at blending natural landscapes with life. He explains: "When we take a project there are two things we like to do; create something unique and artistic and fit the project to its place and culture. Our inspiration for the Avignon Monet Garden was Monet's paintings and we sought to bring in the traditional elements of Chinese gardens. We looked at Monet's technique in terms of brush strokes and the influence of poems on traditional Chinese gardens, and then created a unique leaf-shape within Monet Garden. It features the linear bands of Monet's paintings that make the garden feel larger.

One garden - two themes
AECOM Regional Landscape Architecture Director David Jung said: "Our design emphasizes the relationship between people and nature. I think this will help relieve people's stress, particularly in a city like Hong Kong that is mostly urban area, and this is important to quality of life." This is the idea behind Avignon's Monet Garden, blending the vibrancy of Blossom Court and the tranquility of Aqua Place, in the contemporary lifestyle:
