SHKP's Kai Shing and Hong Yip Win Awards in
EPD Source Separation of Domestic Waste Competition
Sun Hung Kai Properties' Kai Shing Management Services and Hong Yip Service Company won more than a hundred awards and certificates of merit for eco-friendly management for over 100 residential and commercial developments in the Environmental Protection Department Source Separation of Domestic Waste Competition 2009/10, including one Diamond award.
Over 100 Properties Win
More than 2,000 residential and commercial developments were in the competition this year, and they were judged for effectiveness, facilities, management and operating costs and involvement of residents and tenants. Hong Yip and Kai Shing excelled in green management strategy and implementation, as well as involving residents, tenants and employees. They received 188 awards, including one Diamond for 127 Repulse Bay Road, which had one of the highest recycling rates. Over 30 other properties received gold, silver and bronze awards.
Aegean Coast managed by Kai Shing and The Parcville and Park Central under Hong Yip, as well as The Leighton Hill won awards for innovative promotions that enlisted residents' participation. Park Island, 12 Shouson Hill Road, The Parcville, Portfield Building, Welland Building, Tsuen Kam Centre and Shatin Heights won awards for the biggest increases in quantity of recyclables.
Promoting Green Management
Kai Shing and Hong Yip are committed to protecting the environment by including green elements in the day-to-day management of residential and commercial properties. Efforts include effective use of space for waste separation facilities, expanding the types of material to be recycled to increase volume, having composting machine to turn food waste into fertilizer, parking indication systems to reduce exhaust emissions and roof gardens to reduce heat build up. There are also regular activities like swap events, green reward programmes and eco tours to increase awareness and involvement of residents and tenants in environmental protection.
