Sun Hung Kai Properties sponsors Walk for the Environment
400 staff and SHKP Club members turn out
Sun Hung Kai Properties believes in environmental protection and once again supported the Conservancy Association's Walk for the Environment in 2007 as the only gold sponsor. Hundreds of staff and SHKP Club members turned out for the educational walk from Hok Tau in Fanling to Sha Lo Tung in Tai Po.
Walking for a sustainable future
Conservation is one aspect of SHKP's belief in 'Building Homes with Heart'. SHKP builds quality homes for people while balancing environmental concerns for Hong Kong's sustainable development. SHKP has supported the Conservancy Association and its green efforts over the years, including the annual Walk for the Environment that gives participants a chance to enjoy the natural scenery and learn more about conservation.
This year's walk ended at Sha Lo Tung, which is home to diverse species of dragonflies and damselflies. The area is second on the government's list of priority sites for enhanced conservation and also a site of special scientific interest. There were guides on the walk explaining aspects of the natural environment along the way. The event got a big turn out including nearly 400 staff and SHKP Club members.
Closer to nature
Yeung Yuen Lam was impressed by the scenery during the three-hour walk. This was the first big organized walk that he had ever joined, and he said: "I don't get many chances to get away from the city. The guides helped us explore Sha Lo Tung and told us how to distinguish dragonflies and damselflies. We were all taken by the picturesque site. It wasn't just a fund-raising event, it also helped me learn about nature and the need to preserve it."
SHKP Club member Mr Kwan came with his family of four. He said: "My family liked the route and it sparked my children's interest in environmental protection. We all enjoyed the walk a lot."
Spreading awareness
SHKP promotes environmental awareness to the 250,000 households in its residential estates and tenants in 50 major shopping malls and 60 office and industrial buildings, as well as encourages its 27,000 staff and 260,000 SHKP Club members to 'go green'.
