Since it began operating on 31 March 1996, Phoenix Satellite Television has been striving constantly to provide quality Mandarin programming to the global Chinese communities, with an ultimate objective of "shortening the distance between the Chinese around the world". The dynamism of this massive market, combined with successful expansion strategies, has allowed Phoenix to develop a multi-channel platform.

Today, Phoenix Chinese, Phoenix Movies, Phoenix InfoNews, Phoenix Chinese News and Entertainment, and Phoenix North America Chinese channels together broadcast to audiences in Asia Pacific, Europe, America, Latin America and Africa, covering more than 150 countries and regions via AsiaSat 3, EUROBIRD, DIRECTV and ECHOSTAR, Phoenix Satellite Television has now become a global well-known brand.

Nowadays, Phoenix Satellite Television has grown into a multi-national media enterprise with a global reputation and world-wide brand recognition. Besides its television operations, the Phoenix Group now runs a multi-media business, including the Phoenix Weekly magazine and the Phoenix Website. The Group also continues to diversify its business and has formed a joint-venture company "Beijing Tongbu Guanggao Chuanbo Youxian Gongsi" with the Beijing People's Broadcasting Station to expand the domestic radio market.

Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) on 30 June 2000.

Launched on 1 January 2001, Phoenix InfoNews became available in Hong Kong via CABLE TV on 1 February 2002. Both Phoenix Chinese and Phoenix InfoNews channels are now available to viewers in Hong Kong through different platforms, including the SMATV system, CABLE TV, now Broadband TV, exTV subscription television service and Hong Kong Broadband Pay TV Services. Additionally, Phoenix InfoNews is also available via the "Live TV Channel" of "3"video mobile phone.

At the end of 2002, the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (Sarft) in China granted Phoenix InfoNews channel landing rights to operate as a foreign media broadcaster, enabling the channel to join Phoenix Chinese and Phoenix Movies channels to serve the audience on the Mainland.

The group's innovative programming and outstanding works have earned it many acclaims, both locally and overseas. In a Gallup Research report published in Fortune magazine (US), Phoenix shares the same level of awareness as McDonald's in the eyes of Chinese consumers, making it the only media player to be listed among the most famous brand names in China.

Additionally, Phoenix Satellite TV has been on Asia Week (Yazhouzhoukan)'s top 500 Chinese Business chart five years in a row. It was also elected one of the "Most Respected Companies Of China" for three consecutive years and ranked number 23 amongst the 500 brand names selected as the most valuable in China. Its innovative programmes and presenter talents have also won wide acclaims and awards. In 2004, Phoenix Website was voted one of the "Five Most Influential Websites in China" and "100 Top China Commercial Websites".

Mr. Liu Changle, the group's Chairman and CEO, has also won numerous awards. Among these are the intellect of the media industry, the leader of the Chinese commercial enterprise, the most creative Chinese business leader in Asia Pacific and the leading Chinese programme provider in the world. He has been appointed "Justice of Peace" by the HKSAR government. In March 2005, Mr. Liu was appointed a Hong Kong delegate to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Council (CPPCC).
