Beginning operation on 31 March, 1996, Phoenix Satellite Television has been striving constantly to provide quality Mandarin programming to the global Chinese communities, with an ultimate objective of "shortening the distance between the Chinese around the world". The dynamism of this massive market, combined with successful expansion strategies, has allowed Phoenix to develop a multi-national media Group, which enjoys an excellent reputation and brand recognition in the world.

The Group's five TV channels----Phoenix Chinese channel, Phoenix InfoNews channel, Phoenix Chinese News & Entertainment channel, Phoenix North America Chinese channel and Phoenix Movies channel are distributed via AsiaSat-3S, China Set-6B, Eurobird, Telsat-12, Directv, Echostar, G3-C, Satmex-6, Bell ExpressVU, covering over 150 countries and regions in Asia Pacific, Europe, America, Latin America, Middle East and Africa.

Besides its television operations, the Group has also been devoting to other media diversifications, including publication, new media, radio and etc. To further develop advertising business on radio in Mainland China, Phoenix Satellite TV and Beijing People's Radio jointly formed "Beijing Simulcast Communication Cooperation Ltd." On June 8, 2006 China Mobile (Hong Kong) forged an alliance with Phoenix Satellite TV and decided to work side by side on marketing, promotion, content distribution, sales, service and new media applications.

Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) on 30 June 2000. On 5 December 2008, Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited has changed its listing to the Main Board (Stock code: 2008).

The Group's innovative programming and outstanding works have earned it many acclaims, both locally and overseas. According to a Gallup Research by Fortune Magazine (US), Phoenix is the only media cooperation listed among the most famous brands in China in the eyes of Chinese consumers.

Phoenix Satellite TV has also been on Asia Week's Top 500 Chinese Business Chart and being one of the "Most Respected Companies Of China" for six years consecutively and still remains as one of the most valuable 500 brands in China. Its innovative programming and the talents of its presenters have also won wide acclaims and awards. In 2004, Phoenix's website was honored one of the "Five Most Influential Websites in China" and "100 Top China Commercial Websites".

Mr. Liu Changle, the Group's Chairman and CEO, has also won numerous awards such as "Media Talent", "Captain Of The Industry", "The Most Creative Chinese Entrepreneur" in Asia Pacific, "The Leading Content Provider of Chinese Programme" in the world and etc. In July 2004, Mr. Liu was appointed Justice of the Peace (JP) by the government of Hong Kong Special Administration Region. And in November 2005, he was nominated as a Non-Official Member of the Commission on Strategic Development of HKSAR. In March 2005, Mr. Liu became a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultant Committee. The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences appointed him Chairman of 2005/2006 iEMMYs Festival. In February 2007, Mr. Liu was honored an Award as a Media Entrepreneur Of The Year 2006 in China by Ernest & Young for his excellent leadership, great visionary, outstanding performance and superb creativities in operating Phoenix Satellite Television.
