Hysan Volunteers Build Green Joyful Homes for Families in Need

The volunteer team of Hysan Development Company Limited (Stock Code: 0014) has embarked on a one-year project to help renovate homes for some Hong Kong families in need. The voluntary services are in support of the Green Joyful Home for Disabled program implemented by Habitat for Humanity China.

The Green Joyful Home for Disabled program aims to create safe and enjoyable living environments for no-income or low-income disabled or elderly families renting and residing in public housing estates in Hong Kong. Under the program, caring volunteers from the community provide home renovation and improvement works for these families using environmentally-friendly materials and barrier-free design.

Hysan is the Premier Green Partner of the program. Its volunteer team's debut build was held in Tung Tau Estate, Wong Tai Sin in December 2012. The team helped repair and renovate home facilities using green materials, installed safety fixtures, cleaned and tidied up interior space, and made wall-mount plant frames for home decoration. The Hysan volunteer team includes members of various departments, as well as their family members. Colleagues from technical units made particular good use of their expertise to help ensure this renovation project be successful.

"Making positive contributions to the communities and the environment has always been an important component in Hysan's corporate responsibility work," said Mr. Siu Chuen LAU, Hysan's Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We believe Hysan volunteers' enthusiastic participation in this meaningful project will help make a difference among those in need in the community, and at the same time help raise awareness of green and safe homes among the public."

In addition to sponsoring the voluntary services, Hysan also helped raise funds to support the program by launching a "Plant & Give" mobile phone game application as part of its 2012 Christmas promotion activities. Shoppers in Lee Gardens have "grown trees" using the application in the festive season and helped raise a donation of HK$100,000 contributed by Hysan to fund the program.
