Two major Korean shipping lines choose JICT for new international shipping route

Jakarta, 22nd June 2000 - Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) received its seventh new shipping service of the year when the container ship "M.V. Franconia" berthed at Indonesia's premier container terminal on 20th June 2000. With the arrival of the "M.V. Franconia" two major Korean shipping companies, Korea Marine Transport Company Limited (KMTC) and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) inaugurated their new joint weekly "Korea-Indonesia II " (KIS II) service which connects Jakarta with Pusan, Korea's major container port, and Hong Kong.

The choice of JICT as the port of call in Tanjung Priok for the KIS II service by HMM and KMTC, is a major vote of confidence in the Terminal, its facilities capabilities and services.

Delighted to welcome the new arrival at the Terminal was JICT President Director, Mr Simon Moore :

"We are sure this new service will lead to even greater things for HMM and KMTC as they continue to develop the Indonesian container shipping market. This new service further increases the shipment options for importers and exporters using JICT, and brings further benefits to them. "

The 1042 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) "Franconia" will be joined by two sister ships, the "Tete Rickmers" and the "Inga S." on the following route - JICT-Surabaya-Hong Kong-Pusan-Hong Kong-JICT, calling at JICT each Tuesday.

With its development and expansion programme already underway, JICT is well placed to continue to stimulate new container shipping services through the provision of consistently high service levels and its vision to develop the Terminal into a world class hub port for Indonesia, by substantially increasing the number of direct connections between Jakarta and major ports all over the world.

Mr Simon Moore added: "JICT will be working very hard to not only maintain, but exceed our performance levels so far this year. With our major investments in new equipment and expansion, we are looking to attract many more customers and continue our drive towards world class status."

Note to Editors

JICT is Indonesia' largest container terminal and is jointly owned by Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) and P.T Pelabuhan Indonesia II. HPH is an independent port investor, developer and operator, with operations in 18 ports in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
