HWL Volunteers set to promote

Harmony, Health and Happiness in community

(Hong Kong, 19 March 2005) Members of Hutchison Whampoa Limited's Volunteer Team have been energised to kick off their service programme for 2005 with a theme on promoting "Harmony, Health and Happiness" in the community.

Capitalising on the foundation that it has built over the past years, the 450-member strong HWL Volunteer Team will continue to show its care for the community by organising events and activities of different natures to help the needy.

Speaking today at the kick-off ceremony of the HWL Volunteer Programme 2005, HWL Deputy Group Managing Director Mrs Susan Chow said the HWL Volunteer Team had organised 20 events and activities during last year, serving a total of close to 1,000 senior citizens and children.

Mrs Chow said these included seminars on healthy eating habits, elderly home visits, home cleaning and electrical appliances donation and so on, adding that team members' spirit of contribution had been remarkable, as all these events and activities were held outside office hours.

"The HWL Volunteer Team will continue to organise different activities this year and will involve schools and social service organisations. These activities will centre around the theme of 'Harmony, Health and Happiness'. Our team members will strive for propagating the messages behind these three 'Hs' while serving the community, hoping that everybody will be able to lead a harmonious, healthy and happy life," Mrs Chow said.

Officially established in November 2003, the HWL Volunteer Team comprises members from different business divisions of the HWL Group.

To make the kick-off ceremony a more meaningful and enjoyable one, the HWL Volunteer Team had arranged an early Easter celebration for 160 pupils and teaching staff of 10 primary schools.

Also attended today's ceremony were HWL Executive Director Mr Dominic Lai, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Council of Social Service Ms Christine Fang, Principal Inspector of Guidance and Discipline Section of the Education and Manpower Bureau Mrs Gigi Mansukhani and Director of TREATS Ms Kris Tong.
