New at 3: Video-Streaming on the 3Mobiles
Streaming of news video clips free of charge until end of March

News in everyday life want to be consumed fast and are very rarely saved for re-viewing. Hence 3 as of now offers streaming in the bounds of "news" and "video clips / category news".

Beside the already existing function "save" (=download of video clips for numerous viewing), is in addition the function "view" possible, facilitated through streaming with the 3VideoMobiles supporting this function - Motorola mobiles A835 / A920 / A925 and NEC 313 and 616 (available soon). Thus 3Customers can quickly and easily consume their news - videos from ORF (9 o'clock ZIB), Reuters, as well as the latest daily weather forecast while being on the move. The function "save" will be available to all 3Customers furthermore.

Streaming (packed switched streaming) is a technology that enables playing multi media data, like sound or video files, in real time. Speed and quality depend on the disposable bandwidth, whereas UMTS offers for the best preconditions for streaming due to it's a data transfer rate of up to 384 kbps. The advantage of streaming versus download is the direct access to the multi media information without the time consuming download rates and without blocking the storage space on the 3VideoMobile. For the most favoured clips, like "Best of MTV", the hottest Champions League goals, fashion clips, cabaret, multi media art or the sizzling Playboy-Playmates recommends itself the download, since in this case one pays once and can view as often as one likes.

Test streaming free of charge

3Customers have the chance of testing streaming free of charge, that is to say the "viewing" of news clips within the 3Zone, until 31st March 2004. After that streaming will be charged in accordance to the outlined video clip price, despite of the data volume and without additional cost for data transfer. In case of losing the transmission and hence aborting the stream 3Customers can retry free of charge.
