Orange launches the latest Kjava application services with GPRS
Hong Kong's first to support both technologies

Enabling Orange users to access always on-line information
via Motorola A6288 and GPRS high-speed data transmission service

Orange announces the launch of a series of application services that support both GPRS and Kjava technologies. First to introduce in Hong Kong, the Kjava applications with GPRS enable users to be continually updated with always on-line information via the newest Motorola A6288 GPRS handset and "Orange Info Centre" service1. Users can access a variety of instant information including automatically-updated stock prices, weather and traffic news anytime, anywhere, harnessing the most innovative and convenient Kjava applications with GPRS.

Up-to-the-minute information in the palm of your hand

Together with the new Motorola A6288, which supports both Kjava applications and GPRS, Orange has launched the "Orange Info Centre" service, allowing users to access a variety of first-hand, up-to-the-minute information through Orange Mobile Data Service.

The revolutionary GPRS data transmission technology enables users to access always on-line information anywhere, anytime. Users will be charged on a per packet basis according to the Orange Mobile Data Service and do not need to pay connection fees when staying in the "Always On" mode. The charges based on the volume of data transmitted allow users to enjoy very economical service.

Automatics stock price updates

The combination of GPRS technology and the latest "Orange Info Centre" allow users to be updated with always on-line information, ranging from Hong Kong stock market news and financial information to weather and traffic news. With "Orange Info Centre", subscribers can access financial information such as charts of the Hang Seng Index, Future, GEM and individual stock transaction prices etc. Subscribers can set up their own portfolios with a maximum of 5 stocks. These stocks are linked to the Price Alert service2 that informs users by SMS when their selected stock reaches a pre-set price. All stocks listed on the portfolio are updated automatically within 10 to 20 seconds so users can get the most up-to-date information to make the best investment decisions.

Weather and traffic news at your fingertips

"Orange Info Centre" provides comprehensive weather information including general weather conditions, current temperatures, day's highest and lowest temperature, relative humidity, weather forecast for the next five days, special status (typhoon, rainstorm, thunderstorm), and a chart showing current temperatures at different locations in Hong Kong. The traffic update provided in "Orange Info Centre" includes Fast Photo Location, Tunnel News and Special News which keep subscribers briefed about the latest traffic conditions.

Download Kjava applications anytime anywhere

Orange offers users free Kjava applications. Once downloaded, users can utilise the application unlimitedly. The free "Orange Forex Calculator" allow users to retrieve a maximum of ten foreign exchange rates, for instance, USD, JPY, AUD, EUR and FRF. The "Orange Puzzle Game" application offers users up to 10 puzzle games free of charge. Meanwhile, users can also download Kjava applications from the Internet to their handsets, for maximum enjoyment of the convenience of mobile communications.

Orange exclusively offers the new Motorola A6288 which weighs only 155g and features a standard lithium ion battery offering long talk time (150 minutes) and standby time (96 hours). The transmission speed is up to 40 kbps. The handset supports both Chinese and English input methods with a built-in alarm clock, calculator, dictionary, and allows users to compose ringing tones, send and receive e-mail.
