Inaugural Call of 'Amsterdam' to Harwich International Port

With the 2001 Cruise Season well under way, Harwich International Port saw the inaugural call of Holland America Line's brand new cruise ship 'Amsterdam'.

The Amsterdam's maiden call to Harwich on 30 May 2001 is the first of her four calls to Harwich International Port this year.

'Amsterdam' is an impressive 238m long and has a maximum breadth of 34m. She has a gross tonnage of 62,000 and a maximum speed of 24.5 knots. Her total capacity is 2,375 passengers and crew.

Passengers cruising on the 'Amsterdam' can expect a luxurious holiday. On board her twelve decks are two swimming pools, two tennis courts, a gymnasium, a nightclub/piano bar, a casino and a video games room. For passengers in pursuit of a more relaxing cruise, there is a two-level main show lounge, a theatre, a beauty centre/health spa, art gallery, cinema, library and a shopping arcade. Together with her meeting and conference rooms, 'Amsterdam' really is comparable to a floating city.

Holland America Line has been calling at Harwich International Port since 1999 with their cruise ships 'Maasdam' and 'Rotterdam'. After departing Harwich, 'Amsterdam' will head for Rotterdam.

'Amsterdam' is one of 43 cruise ships due at Harwich International Port this season.
