

GLOBAL BIO-CHEM APPOINTS
NEW DIRECTOR TO STRENGTHEN
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CAPABILITY
(Hong Kong, August 21, 2001) Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited ("Global Bio-chem" or the "Company" or together with its subsidiaries, the "Group", stock code: 809), today announced the appointment of Mr. Xu Zhouwen, as an executive director of the board of Global Bio-chem with immediate effect. With Mr. Xu's appointment, the number of directors on the board of Global Bio-chem will be increased to a total of seven.
Taking up his new role, Mr. Xu will be responsible for the planning and management of the Group's manufacturing operations, research and development, and product and market development.
Graduated from Harbin Electric University in China in 1970, Mr. Xu has over 30 years of experience in production and engineering of corn refined and corn based biochemical products. Mr. Xu is a specially invited member of the Corn Refiners Association in the United States. Prior to his appointment with the Company, Mr. Xu was a counsellor to the Group for six years assisting Global Bio-chem to improve its production expertise and technological knowhow, supporting the Group in the development of biochemical technology, and advising the Group on product and market strategies.
"With Mr. Xu's extensive experience and knowledge in agro-biochemical industry, the new appointment will strengthen the Group in its research and development capabilities to support its strategic expansion. Upon assuming this new position, Mr. Xu will undertake a series of development programme to leverage the Group's existing and coming research and development endeavors and exercises with an aim to broaden the scope of its research and development and the range of its products," said Mr. Liu Xiaoming, Chairman of Global Bio-chem.
Listed on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on March 16, 2001, Global Bio-chem is principally engaged in the research and development and manufacture of corn refined and corn based biochemical products in the PRC. Its products are sold in the PRC and other Asian countries. Headquartered in Hong Kong with its main production facilities based in Changchun, Jilin province in the PRC, the Group is one of the largest corn-based biochemical product manufacturers in the PRC.

Mr. Xu Zhouwen joined the Board of Global Bio-chem as an Executive Director in August 2001.
