China Merchants Holdings (International) Company Limited ("CMHI") was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1992, as the first mainland red chip enterprise to be listed in Hong Kong. Due to robust growth and increased market recognition, it became a Hong Kong Hang Seng Index constituent stock in September 2004. CMHI's parent company is China Merchants Group, a conglomerate with a 136-year history in transportation, infrastructure, financial and property management.

CMHI is the largest public port operator in China, with investments across the Bohai Economic Zone, the Yangtze River Delta, the Xiamen Bay Economic Zone, the Pearl River Delta, and the Southwest region. Its nationwide port network includes the coastal hub ports in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin and Zhanjiang. These areas account for over 80% of Mainland China's total GDP and 70% of national total container throughput.

In 2006, CMHI-invested terminals handled 40.24 million TEUs-topping national rankings and placing CMHI at the forefront of the world's largest independent port operators. Throughput volume of CMHI-invested terminals in China accounted for 36% of China's total container throughput.
