China Star Entertainment Limited and its subsidiaries (China Star or the group) is principally engaged in the production and distribution of films and television drama series and provision of other film related services including artist management services. The group also engaged in various property development and investment in Hong Kong and Macau and multi-media and entertainment business operations.
Achievement in the past and current business development:
China Star has previously being a well-established entertainment, multimedia, production and distribution enterprise that are based in Chinese dialect. In the course of this development, China Star is striving hard to establish excellent reputation as a powerful film producer and international film distributor.
Since 2000, China Star has produced various films, of which most of them earned critical acclaim and scored a resounding success at the box office. In 2000, "Needing You" was the leading local film of the respective year having a box office of approximately HK$35 million. In 2001, the four most popular and successful films produced by China Star namely "Wu Yen", "Love On A Diet", "La Brassiere" and Master Q 2001" achieved a total of box office receipts of approximately HK$107 million, representing 38% of total box office receipts for top ten Chinese films in Hong Kong. China Star has proven to be the most recognized film producer in Hong Kong. In 2002, "My Left Eye Sees Ghosts", "The Lion Roars", "Mighty Baby" and "Fat Choi Spirit" achieved total box office receipts of approximately HK73 million, make them four of the most successful local Chinese films of that year. In 2003, films produced by China Star won a number of the major awards at the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards. "Running on Karma" was awarded the Best Film and the Best Screenplay, and Mr. Andy Lau was named the Best Actor with his role in the film. The awards Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress came to Miss Cecilia Cheung and Ms. Josie Ho with their respective performance in "Lost in Time" and "Naked Ambition". "Lost in Time" has also won the award of Best Original Film Score for the outstanding work by Mr. Peter Kam. Mr. Andy Ong, a new artist under China Star was also honored as the Best New Performer. In 2004, Fantasia, the group's Chinese New Year blockbuster, recorded the second highest box office of all local films in 2004. In 2005, a high-quality film "Election" produced by the group received response. Apart from achieving outstanding results in ticketing and distribution, the film had won a number of top awards in the 25th Hong Kong Film Awards, including the Best Film Award, the Best Director's Award, the Best Script Play Award and the Best Actor's Award, fully recognized by the experts in the industry. In 2016, a film "League of Gods" has cost more than 500 million of Hong Kong dollar of the group in production, featured a strong casting of movie stars and produced in collaboration with a 3D special effect team from Hollywood.
Starting from the year 2006, the group had reorganized its business and had started to step in the hotel operation by acquiring its interest in Hotel Lan Kwai Fong (Macau) Limited (formerly known as Kingsway Hotel Limited). After that, the group had invested huge capital in Hotel Lan Kwai Fong (Macau) Limited in renovation the property. Following the grand opening of Hotel Lan Kwai Fong Macau, the group had expanded its business into the hotel operation, food and beverage business and health and clinical spa business. Hotel Lan Kwai Fong had provided stable income to the group. Hotel Lan Kwai Fong Macau has been awarded with several international accolades, which included the "5th China Hotel Starlight Awards 2009 - Best Designed Boutique Hotel of China" and the "2012 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice - Top 25 Trendiest Hotels in China". In respect of promoting the notion of environmental protection, Hotel Lan Kwai Fong Macau has won the "AHF Asia Awards 2010 - Leading Green Hotel of Asia" and the "Macao Green Hotel Award 2010 - Bronze Award". Hotel and gaming service operations business was discontinued in early 2018 and the Group obtained a significant profit from its disposal.
Property development and investment operations included investing and development of properties. Currently, the Group has two projects under development in Macau, namely (i) Lot C7 do Plano de Urbanizacao da Baia de Praia Grande, located in the Nam Van Lakes Zone, at Avenida Doutor Stanley Ho, registered with the Macau Land and Real Estate Registry under no. 23070 (the "Property C7"); and (ii) Tiffany House located at Rua De Luis Gonzaga Gomes and Rua De Xiamen, Macau.
The Property C7 is a lot of land with site area of 4,669 square meters which are developing for residential and parking purpose with the maximum allowed height of the building of 46.7 meters above sea level and maximum utilization rate of 5.58 (parking not included) according to the Urbanistic Conditions Plan issued by Land and Urban Construction Bureau (“DSSCU”) on 29th June 2023. The Property C7 is developing into a thirteen storey building and one basement and will have a gross floor area of (a) residential – 25,832 square meters, (b) commercial – 215 square meters and (c) parking – 3,930 square meters. The Group has entered into an operation entrustment agreement and a main sale agreement with a well-known Macau property developer and entrust it to assist for design, development and construction, sales and finance arrangement of the Property C7. The Group considered that this professional arrangement for the Property C7 can speed up the construction process and assist the later sales. The construction work of the Property C7 commenced on 14th December 2023. The Property C7 is formally named as “Lake Yoho” and will provide 312 residential units with 15 villas, one commercial unit, and 144 carparks and 30 motorcycle parks at the underground level. Its topping out was on 24th January 2025 and its presale permit was obtained on 13th January 2025. The occupation permit is expected to obtain in mid-year 2026. The presale of Lake Yoho started in end of June 2025 and more than 220 residential units has entered into pre-sales contracts with sales consideration over HK$1,300 million.
Tiffany House is located adjacent to Macao Polytechnic Institute and next to Golden Lotus Square, and is a couple of blocks away from Macau Fisherman’s Wharf and Sands Casino. Tiffany House has a gross floor area of (a) residential – 31,192 square meters, including 3,819 square meters for clubhouse, (b) commercial – 3,716 square meters and (c) parking – 11,250 square meters. It provides 230 residential units in two towers, with units ranging from studio flats to four-bedroom apartments as well as special units and 272 carparks and 75 motorcycle parks in three levels. A prestigious clubhouse decided by Mr. William Chang, a famous art director and star designer in Hong Kong which provides a wide range of facilities including swimming pool, gym room, well equipped kitchen, yoga and dance room, etc. Tiffany House has obtained its occupational permit in December 2019.
In 2023, the Group has established a wholly-owned subsidiary, 杭州英明向太多媒體有限公司 in China which principal activities are multi-channel network e-commerce which included development, promotion and operation of livestreaming e-commerce in any internet platform. Ms. Chen is an internet celebrity and she has an account in Douyin which attracted millions of followers. Ms. Chen uses her social influence, social followers and opinion as a key opinion leader for marketing, endorsement and product placements of products and services for generating revenue, profit, branding and awareness for the Group. On 7th May 2023, the Group started a livestreaming e-commerce in Douyin using Ms. Chen’s Douyin account and she is the network anchor for the livestreaming e-commerce event. The gross merchandise value (“GMV”) for that date was over RMB81 million. The Group has cooperated with a global famous nutrition research and development company and launched our first healthcare product in probiotics and prebiotics branded as “ivywell” in July 2025. Besides, the production of other healthy products will continue. Driven by market promotion, customer adoption, and the revenue recognition cycle, the operating results and financial performance contributed by “ivywell” are expected to be gradually reflected in year 2026.
