Guangdong Investment Limited (GDI) has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 1973. Guangdong Enterprises Holdings Limited (GDE) acquired a controlling interest in the Company in 1987. GDE is the Guangdong Provincial Government's largest economic enterprise organized outside the People Republic of China (PRC) and is one of the major diversified enterprises operating in the Guangdong province. The support of GDE to GDI in its business development enables the Company to capitalize on the burgeoning economy of Guangdong province.

Through its special ties with GDE, GDI is well-positioned to reap the benefits of the plentiful and lucrative business investment opportunities inherent in the increasingly affluent Guangdong area. It has seen phenomenal asset growth in recent years. Strategic acquisitions and investments made since 1991 have increased GDI's net assets by over 6 times, establishing the Company firmly as a diversified conglomerate with investments primarily focused on Guangdong and Hong Kong. Its investments are consistent with the progressive yet prudent management philosophy of the Company.

Coupled with in-depth market insight and well-established business network within Guangdong, GDI's proactive planning and business acumen allows it to stay well ahead of the competition and capture lucrative investment opportunities. The corporate strategy is to continue to be a Guangdong-based conglomerate with a balanced portfolio in five core business areas: industrial investment; infrastructure investment; travel and transportation services and hotel operations; property development and investment; and wholesales and retail investment.

As GDI has became a constituent stock ("Blue chip") of Hong Kong Hang Seng Index since Nov 1994, it arouse both interests of public and institutional investors. In June 1997, GDI also becomes a Hang Seng China-Affiliated Corporations Index constituent stock, which accounts for almost 10% of this new index.
