Shenzhen Expressway Company Limited (the "Company") and its jointly controlled entities (collectively the "Group") are principally engaged in the development, operation and management of toll expressways and highways in the People's Republic of China (the "PRC"). The Company was established on 30th December, 1996 by Shenzhen Freeway Development Company, Shen Guang Hui Highway Development Company and Guangdong Roads and Bridges Development Company by way of promotion. The Compnay's H shares were listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the"Hong Kong Stock Exchange") on the 12th March, 1997.

The core business of the Group is to operate and manage four toll roads namely, National Highway No. 205 (Shenzhen Section), National Highway No. 107 (Shenzhen Section), Meiguan Expressway and Jihe Expressway (East), and to construct Jihe Expressway (West)and Yanba Expressway.It is expected that Jihe Expressway(West) will commence operation in May this year, two months ahead of schedule, and the first phrase of Yanba Expressway will be completed in the second half of 2000. The above highways and expressways comprise all the national highways in Shenzhen City, forming an essential highway network of Shenzhen City and enable the Group to gain a firm foothold in Shenzhen City and to further develop its business in other regions of the PRC. The newly invested Changsha Ring Road (Norhwestern Section) project in Hunan Province will be operational in the second half of this year.
